Welcome to the UKCEAA website
This prospective audit is sponsored by the Healthcare Commission and is being undertaken
in 2005-2007.
All UK hospitals that undertake Carotid Endarterectomy (CEA) are eligible to participate and help us
collect all the CEA cases undertaken in the UK between December 2005 and December 2007. Hospitals are
required to register officially and Registration Forms for this were circulated in September 2005.
Objectives
To assess speed of delivery of CEA, monitor variations in the provision of imaging and
CEA to encourage national and local action to improve quality and increase capacity.
Partnership between surgeons and physicians
The UKCEAA dataset dovetails with the carotid surgery dataset required for the Vascular
Society’s National Vascular Database (NVD). Therefore, if you already submit CEA data to the NVD or wish
to start doing so, the UKCEAA dataset will collect all necessary data and avoid the need for duplicate data
entry.
If you are a Vascular Surgeon and not already a registered contributor to the NVD,
contact the Vascular Society Audit & Research Associate. The benefits of registering for
the NVD are that your data will be merged within the national dataset and your contribution will be
acknowledged in future annual reports produced by the Vascular Society. You will also receive regular
personal summaries of your outcome data that are risk-adjusted.
How to enter the UKCEAA site
Only registered hospitals are able to fully access this site. To find out whether you are
still able to register your hospital(s), contact the Project Co-ordinator.
